Birthday Week Events
On the week from April 19 until April 25, 2026, the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition NYC, working under the leadership of the International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal; and in partnership with Mobilization4Mumia, Campaign to Bring Mumia Home, NYC Jericho Movement, and others; asks you to participate in as many of the events listed above and below, and scheduled in Philadelphia.
All of these events are seeking long-overdue justice in the wrongful conviction and incarceration of US political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Free Them All Sunday Service
and Community Dinner
Kick off #MumiaWeek ’26 with a message of hope, the history of our movement, and encouragement for the future with our Free Them All Sunday Service & Community Dinner.
Mumia’s been wrongfully convicted for 44 years, yet his principles have birthed a movement that has uplifted revolutions around the world. We’re inviting elders of our movement, and young newcomers alike for an intergenerational exchange like no other, to learn from the past, and build relationships that will fortify our future.
We’re partnering with Ubuntu Freedom to take us through a Church of the Revolution concert & ceremony to guide our spirits towards liberation.
From there, we’ll be discussing Mumia, our movement history and commemorating the March4Mumia participants, before going into the basement of the church for a catered dinner and dedicated communal time with former Black Panthers, storied organizers, and luminaries alike.

Arts and Crafts Night
Make your mark on #MumiaWeek with our Innocence & Abolition Arts & Crafts Night, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Girarden Wellness Garden, located at 4157 West Girard Avenue, Philadelphia.
The Girarden Wellness Garden has been dealing with some shady land developers who are attempting to steal the space away from the community. So what better way to live out Mumia’s politics than to occupy that plot and give it back to the people?
At this art build, expert memory workers Lunise Cerin & Wynn Eakins will guide us through a presentation on innocence and revolution in Philadelphia history & nature as we center our revolutionary softness, re-imagine innocence through art and come together for an inspiring garden party under the stars, creating banners, signs and other materials to take with us into the March of Innocence on Saturday, April 25th.

Join local luminaries and organizing communities alike for an evening of game show foibles, bar food, and friendly competition as we learn from our political prisoners, dive into some minigames, and dissect the systems of separation and extraction stacked against us. Don’t worry, they may have the watches, but we have the time!
Assemble a squad, share a drink, and learn a thing or two!
Whether you’re a first-time player, a burgeoning anti-imperialist, or a seasoned community steward, one thing is for sure. Everyone knows:

On Friday, April 24th, 2026, Mumia Abu-Jamal will turn 72 years old.
He has been incarcerated in the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for the majority of his life, 44 years for one of the most egregious wrongful conviction cases in history.
Now, after enduring ongoing continuous medical neglect and elder abuse, Mumia is dealing with many exacerbating conditions, and is at severe risk of losing his eyesight. Despite this, he has continued to consistently use his voice, writing, wisdom, and power to sharply condemn US imperialism domestically and abroad, uplifting decolonial and revolutionary struggles internationally.
We’re celebrating Mumia’s 72nd birthday with a rally outside District Attorney Larry Krasner’s office, located at 3 South Penn Square, Philadelphia, PA, demanding immediate medical care for Mumia.
From there, we’ll march to The Friends Center at 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA, for a reception where we’ll share dinner, celebrate Mumia’s life with a few speakers, watch documentaries about movements arising around Mumia’s unjust conviction, eat cake, and write cards for the man of the hour. Maybe he’ll even call in!
In collaboration with Prison Radio, Abolition School, Black Alliance for Peace, and so many more, even if you can’t rally with us, come out, meet local organizers and learn about a luminary like no other. It’ll be an excellent night of communal cheer, camaraderie and celebration as we uplift a revolutionary who has sacrificed so much for Philadelphia and folks internationally who are trying to fight against state violence and to take their empathy to the fullest extent.

and Block Party
The day after his 72nd birthday, we are celebrating Mumia Abu-Jamal and his mission against state violence and imperialism with a March of Innocence on Saturday, April 25th in Philadelphia, raising the issue of Mumia’s urgent medical crisis, wrongful convictions in Pennsylvania, and beyond.
We’ll be marching from a rally at Malcolm X Park in West Philadelphia at 2 PM, to the One Art Community Center at 1431 N 52nd Street for a festival honoring the innocence that has been robbed by the carceral, genocidal police state, and uplifting the innocence we aim to protect for a better future.

We’ll arrive at One Art to a massive block party with food, dancing, games, community organizations, music and spoken word performances and so much more, all the while uplifting our political prisoners and honoring our incarcerated community till we can bring them home.
