Street actions for Mumia’s eyesight
Following the independent review in August by Mumia’s independent medical specialist, we commenced a series of street actions across the street from SCI Mahanoy to pressure the prison administrators to immediately deliver the recommended treatment of his eyesight as recommended by the specialist.
Mumia activists (mostly from Philadelphia, PA; the New York, NY metropolitan area; and Newark, NJ) descended on Mumia’s prison in Frackville, PA, to protest the months of medical delay by the prison in addressing Mumia’s threatened eyesight:

These street actions – at SCI Mahanoy and worldwide – as well as your continued phone calls to the prison and to the PA Department of Corrections, have succeeded in getting Mumia’s medical treatment moving forward.
When we fight, we win.
After months of delay, Mumia received his long-overdue cataract follow-up surgery, and the vision in his left eye has been restored!!!
In addition, Mumia has now been examined directly by an outside ophthalmology and diabetic retinopathy expert who confirmed the critical nature of the bleeding in his right eye.
However, Wellpath and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (PA DOC) are still delaying treatment urgently needed to correct the retinopathy and secure Mumia’s eyesight.

March for Mumia
After the rally on October 20, we plan to continue the escalation of street actions to demand immediate medical treatment to save Mumia’s eyesight.
Further street actions in New York, Philadelphia, worldwide, and in your community are encouraged in the days leading up to the March for Mumia from Friday, November 8, 2025,(Germantown, Philadelphia, PA) to Tuesday, December 9, 2025 (SCI Mahanoy, Frackville, PA).
Both marchers and volunteers are needed to plan and execute this 13-day march from Philadelphia to the prison to obtain Mumia’s treatment and release.
