Mumia supporters expose police terror

On April 23, a press conference was held on the steps of City Hall in New York denouncing the outrageous and illegal police tactics aimed at silencing support for internationally renowned journalist and writer, Mumia Abu-Jamal, who has been on Pennsylvania's death row for almost a quarter of a century.
A Hip Hop concert, organized by young supporters of Abu-Jamal, was scheduled to take place on April 15 at the Remote Lounge. For a week prior to the scheduled concert, the police pressured the club owner to cancel the event, but the owner stood firm. Then, two nights before the scheduled event, the police barged in on the club, issued 16 citations, involving thousands of dollars in fines, and escalated the threats against the owner. Fearing for his family and himself, the owner at this point cancelled the event. The event was promptly moved to Solidarity Center and was held with great enthusiasm, but with anger at the police action.
The case of Mumia Abu-Jamal will be heard on May 17 before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. Mumia has his first real chance of winning a new trial in that court after being convicted of the murder of a policeman almost 25 years ago. The Fraternal Order of Police, the prosecution and their allies are doing everything possible to undermine that possibility.
It is in that context that the attack on the Remote Lounge must be responded to seriously, as it mirrors a long history of similar actions in Philadelphia. In that city, a scheduled event highlighting famed actor Danny Glover for April 24, Mumia's birthday, at the Clef Club, was just moved because of similar police tactics.
Mumia concert shut down by NYPD

Supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal congregated on the steps of City Hall on Monday to condemn the NYPD for what they claim was intimidating and issuing illegal citations to the club owner of the Remote Lounge on Bowery.
On April 15th, the New York City Collation to Free Mumia (NYCCFM) organized a benefit hip-hop concert for Mumia's legal defense fund.
"The police engaged in a conspiracy to close this event to prevent a worthy cause" activist attorney Michael Tarif Warren said. Warren, who is the collation's legal representative, added, "We need a fair hearing to air the legal improprieties" of the NYPD.
After receiving 16 citations, thousands of dollars in fines and allegedly malicious threats, the night club owner canceled the concert, two days before the scheduled event.
In a mad rush for time, the NYCCFM was forced to relocate the concert to the International Action Center (IAC) in Midtown.
On the infamous NYPD Rant blog, a slew of comments were posted by police officers informing cops about their illegal actions to shut down the hip-hop event.
One post on the blog read, "This f--ker should be dead, we should ruin this event and make life miserable for every f-ing Hollywood liberal scum liker that shows up, fry Mumia."
Monica Morehead, coordinator for the Millions for Mumia Committee with the (IAC), suggested that the recent police repression of Mumia Abu-Jamal activists has been ignited because on May 17th, oral arguments for a new trial for Mumia will be heard in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Morehead said, "The movement to free Mumia will not be intimidated by any arms of this oppressive state, especially the police." She continued, "The police are trying to discourage the movement."

"ONA MOVE
If these officials think that people that are committed to the work of freeing mumia abu jamal and the move 9 are gonna buckle in the face of police pressure then they got another thing coming. When we talk to people about what happened at mumia 911 part 2 on april 15th and how far the cops went to shut down the show people are in disbelief as if they dont know how far these officials the same people that took away our freedom will go to kill mumia and cut off any support for the brother. This the same system that dropped a bomb on 11 of my family members of the move organization on may 13th 1985 for the whole world to see. These are the same officials who shot and killed fred hampton sr in his sleep. The same system that slaughtered the native indians and stole there land. Despite all the examples that this system provides on a daily basis on how corrupt it is people still deny the fact that on april 15th police were gonna send the hells angels motorcycle gang to create violence outside The Remote Lounge. People dont believe that police were gonna set up check points for cars and pedestrians who were planning on attending the show would be turned away. The day after mumia 911 some info was sent to us from 100 blacks from law enforcement who care. This info came from a police blog called nypd rant.It shows cops course of action on how they mapped out shutting down this fundraiser from the harrassment of the owner of the club, to aressting party goers that night, to there response after the owner of the club closed his doors to us.This blog exposes the racism, the sadism, and there plot to further kill mumia keep the move 9 in prison and cut off all levels of support. When people read this blog they should be outraged and eliminate any doubts how far this system will go.We will keep people informed on our course of action in dealing with this situtation. All out to philly for Mumia on may 17th."

I AM SURE that on the night in question, the streets for
blocks around this dive will be loaded with pimped-out Escalades (of course), Jags, Lexuses, Beemers and other fashionable rides of the "hip-hop community," not to
mention the pricey cars of all of the bleeding-heart liberal glitterari (including many elected and appointed alleged
public servants) who will turn out to show their concern
for social justice, members of the media who seem to
think that Mumia and the efforts to spring him are a BIG STORY (as opposed to the ongoing pain and struggles of
the murdered and martyred Officer Faulkner's family,
which most of them dismiss as YESTERDAY'S NEWS),
and the assorted publicity-seeking trendoids, fashonistas, social climbers, club-hoppers, networkers, live wires, groupies (M/F/and GLBT) and other party-crashers attracted by
the presence of celebrities and the media like flies to shyte.
The state Vehicle and Traffic Law is a nice thick book.
Here is a chance to see how creatively it can be applied.
If a car is even 1/2 inch more than 12 inches from the curb = SUMMONS. If there is ANY kind of obstruction of the
rear license plate (particularly the flashy, flashing lighted frames popular with the pimp set and the rappers who
think these guys are cool and want to emulate their
smooth "style") = SUMMONS. Any obstruction of the
front or rear windows (especially excessive tinting or
big decals proclaiming how phat the driver and his ride
are, both "faves" of the hip-hop set) = SUMMONS.
Pumped-up sound system blasting out alleged "music" at excessive volume levels = SUMMONS. Driver blabbing
away on his cell phone while attempting to drive = SUMMONS.
Anybody who needs to write few tags to appease a
numbers-crunching boss -- here's your chance. I AM
SURE that our Hip-Hop Maya, a/k/a Grandmaster
Mike B, the Commissioner, and Martha E. Stark (the Commissioner of the city Finance Department)
will be deeply appreciative of your efforts to swell the city's coffers. |

Re: protests?
Maybe the SOL in the 9th Precinct should gather his troops and make a visit to the location with the SLA a day or two
prior to check on all required permits and licenses. The
FD should also show up the night of the event to check
on any overcrowding and if they have adequate emergency exits and to ensure they are not blocked. Vice could also have an undercover or two hit the spot to see if they are serving underage patrons. Someone else mentioned task force and roadblocks, all great ideas. The boro task forces and Auto Larceny Unit's have a "plate reader" which is able to read license plates while on the move. It can tell you within
seconds if a vehicle is stolen, if the registration is expired and it will give the information on the registered owner,
suspended license, warrant etc. A little show of force at the Remote Lounge is definitely called for that night. |

Never gonna happen! You haven't got any bosses that will risk a complaint of selective enforcement or harassment! Many years ago you could raid any dump you liked! Those days are dead and buried! The once proud Police Dept. of the City of NY is dead; it just doesn't know enough to lie down!

Re: Benefit for cop-killer Mumia this coming wknd on the Bow
I found some interesting intel on one of the "bands" playing there that night, a group called A-Alikes.
This is what "Ness" from their band said:
"A couple years back, we had a photo shoot...just taking pictures in Brooklyn...These two police officers were paying' a lot of attention to what we was doin'. They came over, gettin' all in our business...we was just being young Black males, throwing up our bandanas, congregatin' – that's against the law or some s**t. They asked us to show IDs, [we refused]. Long story short, they ain't like that, they called for backup. Mad pigs came out. It was on....me myself, I was slammed to the ground in the struggle. We spent the night in jail...calls was made, lawyers was contacted, and they took care of us. [In the end], we went to trial. We filed a civilian complaint. We went through the whole process. We got some money out of it. Being what we about, a lot of people think we just shootin' it out with the pigs. But it's real life."
Filing CCRB complaints, gettin' money from it, "shooting it out with the pigs"...
No wonder they're doing a benefit for a cop-killer...

MESSAGE FROM ORIE LUMUMBA, ORGANIZER OF MUMIA 911 PART II...
"ONA MOVE
It is with great stress and anger that I write this statement this afternoon. After a week long campaign of threats, intimidation, and finally being hit with 16 diffrent citations the owner of the remote lounge has decided that the club could no longer host our benefit this Sunday. I just wanna make one thing clear we will not be intimidated nor will we be shut down by a bunch of weak insecure perverted bullies and cowards like the police. By no means is this a victory for the police in fact this is a victory for us it just further shows how far they will go to cut off any public support for mumia.
.
Join us this Sunday as the show has now moved to the International Action Center located at 55 West 17th st 5th fl.Between 5th and6th avenues in Manhattan. The price on the door is now $10 due to the fact that the show has been moved and that people are traveling. Showtime starts at 8:00pm and the show will feature A-Alikes, Queen Godis, C Rayz Walz, Imessiah Soul, DCQ, Seeds of Wisdom, and Pat-Riot. Take a stand for Mumia this Sunday and let's let these officials know we aint backing down one bit."

Almost certainly not. The IAC is the International Action Center, which is a communist front organization of the Workers World Party, and run by former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark. It's their headquarters office, probably being done in a conference room or hall they have there.

This is a perfect situation for the need for the cops and firemen to get along. FD is alot more knowledgeable when it comes to building code violations and overcrowding situations. |
