Clandestine,revolutionary, Puerto Rican independentista organization, Los Macheteros, does its own research to determine who the assassins were of the Revolutionary hero, Filiberto Rios were. Comandante Filiberto was brutally shot and left to die when he could have simply been arrested, even if they could not tolerate his important work in trying to unify the Puerto Rican independence movement.

SAN JUAN -- Según un comunicado de Los Macheteros recibido en la oficina de Prensa Asociada en San Juan, John Roeper habría participado en la polémica operación de la cual las autoridades federales se han negado a ofrecer información e identidad de los protagonistas.
El gobierno de Puerto Rico demandó tal información en los tribunales y, aunque el reclamo llegó hasta el Tribunal Supremo de Estados Unidos, la identidad de los agentes no ha sido revelada.
Un informe de la Oficina del Inspector General del Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos reconoció que un agente federal dio muerte a Ojeda Ríos el 23 de septiembre del 2005, pero sólo lo identificó con el seudónimo de "Brian".
El grupo clandestino, además, critica que el Departamento de Justicia local haya cerrado la investigación en torno a la muerte "sin determinar que ese operativo culminó en un asesinato".
"Nosotros en el EPB-Los Macheteros, en cambio, sí hemos podido identificar varios de los mercenarios que participaron en el asesinato de nuestro comandante. Nuestra división de inteligencia sí lo ha podido hacer. Hoy le damos el nombre de John Roeper. En próximos comunicados, informaremos al país de otros agentes", destacó la organización en el parte de prensa.
Una búsqueda en internet hecha por la AP confirmó que aparece un individuo de nombre John Roeper identificado como agente especial del FBI con base en Dallas en el área de Fort Worth. La AP le envió un correo electrónico solicitando una entrevista.
Harry Rodríguez, portavoz del FBI dijo que no comentarían el comentario pero destacó que "el FBI considera a los Macheteros como una organización terrorista por lo que seguiremos dedicando recursos para erradicar el terrorismo".
Sobre el nombre del supuesto agente revelado por los Macheteros, Rodríguez tampoco quiso ni confirmar ni negar la información.
El grupo clandestino aprovechó la cercanía de las elecciones para arremeter contra la administración del gobernador Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, a quien catalogan de "cómplice en este asesinato".
"El Secretario (Roberto Sánchez Ramos) tiene conocimiento de, por lo menos, dos de los agentes que planificaron y dirigieron lo que nadie duda ya que fue un asesinato. Esos agentes son Luis Fraticelli y José Figueroa Sancha", director y subdirector del FBI en San Juan, dice el comunicado.
Acevedo Vilá ha dicho que los 24 cargos federales en su contra relacionados con el financiamiento presuntamente ilegal de sus pasadas campañas eleccionarias están vinculados a sus reclamos en el caso de la muerte de Ojeda Ríos.
El FBI considera a los Macheteros una organización terrorista. Por su parte, el movimiento independentista ha acusado a Estados Unidos de persecución política durante décadas.

SAN JUAN -- According to a communiqué from The Macheteros received at the office of the Associated Press in San Juan, John Roeper participated in the polemical operation in which federal authorities have refused to offer information or the identity of the protagonists.
The government of Puerto Rico demanded this information in the courts and, although the complaint reached the United States Supreme court, the identity of the agents has not been revealed.
A report of the Office of Inspector General of the United States Department of Justice recognized that a federal agent killed Ojeda Ríos on September 23, 2005, but it only identified the agent with the pseudonym of "Brian."
The clandestine group also criticizes the local Department of Justice for having closed the investigation into the death "without determining that this operation culminated in an assassination."
"We in the EPB–The Macheteros, in turn, have been able to identify several of the mercenaries who participated in the assassination of our commander. Our intelligence division has been able to do so. Today we publish the name of John Roeper. In the next communiqués, we will report to the nation about other agents," the organization pointed out in the press release.
An internet search done by the AP confirmed that an individual named John Roeper does appear as a special agent of the FBI, based in Dallas, in the Fort worth area. The AP sent him an email seeking an interview.
Harry Rodríguez, spokesperson for the FBI, said they would not comment, but pointed out that "the FBI considers the Macheteros to be a terrorist organization, and thus we continue to devote resources to eradicate terrorism."
As for the name of the alleged agent revealed by The Macheteros, Rodríguez refused to confirm or deny the information.
The clandestine group made the most of the coming elections to attack the administration of governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, who they characterize as "an accomplice in this assassination."
"The Attorney General (Roberto Sánchez Ramos) knows of at least two of the agents who planned and directed what no one doubts was an assassination. Those agents are Luis Fraticelli and José Figueroa Sancha," director and assistant director of the FBI in San Juan, the communiqué says.
Acevedo Vilá has said that the 24 federal charges against him, related to allegedly illegal financing of his past election campaigns, are connected to his complaints in the case of Ojeda Ríos' death.
The FBI considers The Macheteros to be a terrorist organization. For its part, the independence movement has for decades accused the United States of political persecution.
